Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross do it. Barak Obama does it. So why shouldn’t you! That’s right everyone is talking about Twitter. But what’s it all about?
Think of Twitter as a constant update of what you are doing. You can post a string of tweets letting the world know who you are, what you are and where you are. These tweets can be up to 140 characters long and resemble Facebook’s status updates (where it asks – what are you doing right now?). All you have to do is log on to www.twitter.com, open an account and away you go.
So how could your radio station use it?
Say you are doing an outside broadcast at a local event. A volunteer could be tweeting about what activities are going on, who is down at the event and how the local community can get involved with the days broadcast.
NB – it’s worth knowing which volunteers are tweeting and perhaps ensuring that they keep their programme and personal tweets distinct.
Here are a few examples of community radio stations using twitter

The key thing is you can put your stations activities in the forefront of your listener’s minds. – it’s a great marketing tool!
