Voice Radio goes digital

vocie radio logoFor those at the CMA conference earlier this year you may recall Voice Radio’s announcement that they intended to join the stations on their local DAB multiplex. Last week’s Ofcom broadcasting bulletin confirmed this was the case. Congratulations Voice Radio. Here is what they had to say:

Voice Radio, the Community Radio Station for the Caerphilly County Borough area, is pleased to announce that from 4 January 2011 it will be broadcasting on the DAB Digital platform right across South Wales on, thus being this first Community station in Wales to do so.

The station, which currently broadcasts 24 hours a day via the internet from its home in Rhymney, has secured funding from the Caerphilly Community Regeneration Fund to be the first community station in Wales to broadcast on the new DAB platform. Established in 2006 by PC Dylan Jones with the support of Caerphilly County Borough Council and Gwent Police, the station prides itself on offering a unique mix of music and chat with a focus on community events and issues, meaning that anyone can get involved.

The station gives young people and the wider Community a voice within their Community and the opportunity to broadcast without years of extensive training.

The station also provides work placement opportunities through the likes of Job Match and the Future Jobs Fund to help people get back into work and learn new skills.

Chris Williams, the Youth and Community Engagement Officer for the project, said:

“It’s a very exciting time for Voice Radio and a lot of hard work has gone into making this dream a reality. All of the DJ’s are thrilled to get the chance to broadcast on DAB and it obviously offers significant opportunities for community groups and local businesses in Caerphilly to get themselves heard and allows us to reach our listeners in a different way. We would like to thank all the volunteers, organisations and businesses whose help has been invaluable in getting us this far and we look forward to carrying on this work in the future to help sustain this valuable and unique project.”

The official launch will take place on 8 January 2011 at the Voice Radio studios, the Whitbread Centre, Rhymney
