Northampton gets some Inspiration

Jenny Campbell writes about the launch of Inspiration FM, Northampton’s multi- cultural community radio station on their website where you can see the photos and videos of the day.

“Northampton Mayor, Councillor Marianne Taylor officially opened Inspiration FM Community Radio on Saturday July 24th after being given a guided tour around the studios and talking to the station’s volunteers. She also recorded an interview with members of the IFM Kids Show which was also filmed and is available here on the website.

Mayor Marianne Taylor arrived at the studios just before 10am accompanied by members of the town’s council and local dignitaries and together they took a look around the newly refurbished studios and the radio training facilities which are available to all members of the community. The Mayor also spoke to members of the station’s steering committee and volunteers including, djs, presenters, receptionists, and technicians without whose free contribution of their time the station would not be able to run.

The Mayor accompanied by her consort took part in the IFM Kids Show and was recoded being interviewed by the kids who represent the future of the station.

Mayor Marianne Taylor was invited back to visit the station again in a few months time to see how everything is progressing. After posing for photos with the volunteers outisde a packed house which included listeners as well, the Mayor and her party left the studios at 20 Sheep Street at about 11am.

Things did not go exactly to plan when the station went off-air for two and a half hours after maintenance engineers cut off the power to the transmitter site without giving the station any notice in advance, warning or prior consultation. Inspiration FM continued broadcasting on the internet during the whole period until power was restored at midday when broadcasts began with Paddy Grady”
